WHAT IS AGILITY?

AGILITY IS A COMPETITIVE DOG SPORT OPEN TO BOTH PUREBRED AND MIXED BREED DOGS. OWNER AND DOG WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM TO COMPLETE AN OBSTACLE COURSE. THE OBSTACLES INCLUDE JUMPS, TUNNELS, CHUTES, A DOG WALK, A-FRAME, TIRE, AND TEETER-TOTTER. THE MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TO HAVE THE DOG FINISH THE COURSE IN A SET AMOUNT OF TIME WHILE COMPLETING EACH OBSTACLE CORRECTLY.

WHO SPONSORS AGILITY?

THERE ARE SEVERAL NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS THAT RECOGNIZE THE SPORT OF DOG AGILITY. THE FIRST U.S. AGILITY ORGANIZATION, FORMED IN 1979, WAS KNOWN AS THE TRANS-NATIONAL CLUB FOR DOG AGILITY (NCDA). TODAY, THIS ORGANIZATION IS KNOWN AS THE UNITED KENNEL CLUB (UKC). AROUND THE SAME TIME, THE UNITED STATES DOG AGILITY ASSOCIATION (USDAA) WAS CREATED.

OTHER ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDE THE NORTH AMERICAN DOG AGILITY COUNCIL (NADAC) AND THE AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB (AKC). THE SAME SKILLS ARE NEEDED FOR ALL THE ORGANIZATIONS, BUT THE RULES AND EQUIPMENT DIFFER SLIGHTLY. SKILLS LEARNED AT AGILITY JUNKIES, INC. WILL PREPARE YOU TO COMPETE IN ANY OF THESE ORGANIZATIONS.

WHO SHOULD BE IN AGILITY?
ALMOST ANYONE WHO LOVES SPENDING TIME WITH THEIR DOG CAN HAVE FUN IN AGILITY. AGILITY IS GREAT EXERCISE FOR BOTH THE DOG AND THE OWNER. IT IS AN APPROPRIATE SPORT FOR ANY DOG (AND HUMAN), REGARDLESS OF THE DOG'S AGE, SIZE OR BREED. AGILITY JUNKIESĀ®, INC.

TRAINS HANDLERS 12 YEARS OLD AND UP AND WORKS WITH DOGS 6 MONTHS AND OLDER. DOGS CANNOT COMPETE UNTIL THEY ARE OVER 1 YEAR OLD BECAUSE JUMPING AT FULL HEIGHT IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR GROWING PUPPIES. BECAUSE OF THIS, IF YOU PLAN TO TRAIN A DOG BETWEEN THE AGES OF 6 MONTHS AND 1 YEAR, WE REQUIRE YOU TO VISIT YOUR VETERINARIAN BEFORE STARTING CLASSES WITH US. FOR DOGS OVER 1 YEAR OLD, A VETERINARY VISIT IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED, SINCE THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF YOUR DOG ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO US.
